With a sweeping run from the midfield, Dreaming Of Alys captured the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf on Saturday to provide a major update for her dam Grammajo.
The daughter of Upstart is now the winner of two of three starts and close to $100,000 in earnings for owners Agave Racing Stable, Medallion Racing and Evan Trommer and trainer Philip d’Amato.
“I was just following the horses in front of me, and she was travelling a little faster once we got to the top of the stretch,” said jockey Diego Herrera. “Down the lane I think she could go further; I felt like I had a lot of horse underneath me. After the wire she didn’t show any signs of weakening. I was really excited that we were able to get the job done, especially with her odds being so big. Horses don’t read odds, and neither do I. I just ride my horse with a lot of confidence.”
Grammajo was purchased by Chad Schumer as agent for $57,000 carrying a full sibling to Dreaming Of Alys at the 2023 Keeneland November Sale. Dreaming Of Alys, who was bred by WinStar Farm, is the fourth foal out of the Street Sense mare, who is a half-sister to five black-type performers.
