Arturo Cousino’s homebred Jancis again looked a filly out of the top drawer when racing away with the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday.
Making only her second start following an impressive debut success at the same course, Jancis came with a sweeping run under Billy Lee to run down the field and win going away. The Group 1 Matron Stakes back at Leopardstown on Irish Champions weekend now beckons.
The daughter of Tamayuz races for long-time Schumer Bloodstock client Arturo Cousino, who bred the filly out of his winning mare Blame The Ruler. Jancis is trained on the Curragh by Willie McCreery.
“She’s a lovely filly. Myself and Nancy (Sexton) spoke last week and it was either here or Killarney next week,” said Willie McCreery.
“Win, lose or draw she’d learn a lot more today, which she did. She’s a great walking filly, she’s an athlete, and we just took our time with her. We’re happy with that.

“We’ll come back here for the Matron, I don’t know if we’ll do anything before that. She’s a light-framed filly and she doesn’t take much work.
“They were going a good clip today, the last day was a maiden whereas this was a Group 3 with proper hardy horses in it. I just loved the way she picked up when she went through the gears.
“Billy thought there was still more there.
“She obviously flows over good ground so that’s what she’ll be running on, we’ll keep her on that. It’s always good ground here and Billy felt even quicker ground as she floats over that ground.”
Dam Blame The Ruler, a half-sister to current Australian stakes winner Acquitted, carried Arturo’s colours to success in a Clairefontaine maiden during her brief career with John Hammond. Blame The Ruler and Acquitted are the only two foals out of Blameless, a former Schumer Bloodstock purchase out of Goffs in Ireland.
Jancis was foaled, reared and pre-trained at Ballylinch Stud and its Castlemartin division.
