Schumer Bloodstock purchase Lagnyos gained a deserved breakthrough for HRH Prince Sultan Bin Mishal Al Saud in Graded stakes company on Saturday when successful in the G3 Commonwealth Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Partnered by Flavien Prat, Lagynos burst through a seam between horses in the early stretch to kick clear of Evade and win in stakes record time of 1.40.83. The win followed several creditable efforts in good company, notably placings in the G2 American Turf Stakes and G3 Transylvania Stakes, and brings his record to $700,553 from a record of 3-2-3 in 13 starts.
“For him to run at this level since the spring and all year long, and then put it together today, I think he’s a very deserving horse,” Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen said. “He’s such a cool horse.”
Lagynos was purchased by Chad Schumer for $200,000 out of the Valkyre Stud consignment as a Keeneland September yearling.
He was bred in Kentucky by Robert Spiegel out of Steamy, a daughter of Speightstown who is also the dam of G3 winner Vision Perfect.
