With an impressive late rally, Barbratina overcame odds of 16-1 to make a taking winning debut at Ellis Park on Friday.
From the first crop of Catholic Boy, Barbratina ran green in the early stages but soon found her feet to power clear for a five-length win for trainer Thomas Humphries, who co-owns the filly with Glynn Puryear.
She provides a good update for her dam Sally Ride, who was purchased by Chad Schumer as agent for $40,000 in foal to Game Winner at last year’s Keeneland November Sale. Already dam of a multiple winner, the daughter of Tapit is a full-sister to Grade 2 winner Conquest Big E.
