Yearling purchase Lagynos made a striking winning debut on Sunday when running away with a $150,000 MSW at Kentucky Downs.
The Kantharos colt broke smartly under Cristian Torres and having assumed a position just off the leaders, shot through a gap on the rail when asked and sprinted clear for a 2 1/4 length win.
Lagynos was purchased by Chad Schumer for $200,000 out of the Valkyre Stud consignment as a Keeneland September yearling and carries the colours of HRH Prince Sultan bin Mishal al Saud. He is trained by Steve Asmussen.
He was bred in Kentucky by Robert Spiegel out of Steamy, a daughter of Speightstown who is also the dam of G3 winner Vision Perfect.
