There was one-two for Schumer Bloodstock as Kupuna and Lagynos filled the top two places in Saturday’s Colonel E. R. Bradley Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Kupuna is out of Schumer Bloodstock purchase Hanalei Hailey while Lagynos was bought as a yearling.
For Kupuna, a son of Hard Spun trained by Norm Casse for Flying P Stables, it was a seventh win and brought his earnings to nearly $700,000. His dam Hanalei Hailey was bought for just $20,000 by Chad Schumer as agent while in foal to Maclean’s Music at the 2021 Keeneland November Sale.
Lagynos (pictured as a yearling) brought his earnings to $1.73 million with another classy display for Steve Asmussen. Previously successful in the Grade 3 Commonwealth Turf Stakes among three stakes wins, the son of Kantharos was a $200,000 yearling purchase by Chad Schumer at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale.
