Valdivia, out of $7,000 purchase Secret Quality, provided another update to his dam’s record on Friday when successful in the handicap at Meydan in Dubai.
Valdivia is only the second foal out of Secret Quality (pictured), an Elusive Quality relation to G3 winner Ask Me No Secrets, and was listed as a placed 3yo at the time of her purchase last November by Chad Schumer and KGS. Sultan Ali’s son of Demarchelier went on break his maiden at Meydan for Ahmad bin Harmash shortly afterwards and again looked a colt of real potential on Friday when coming out on top over 15 other rivals in the day’s competitive handicap opener.
“My fella travelled away lovely,” said jockey Connor Beasley. “It was a rough race but we got the splits. Then the lead horse started to hang, which probably contributed to the interference, but he’s stuck his neck out all the way to the line and we’re very pleased with him.”
Secret Quality now boasts two winners from her first two foals. She also has a three-year-old filly by Gun Runner and a yearling filly by Jack Christopher. She was bought for a bargain $7,000 by Chad Schumer and KGS at the 2024 Keeneland November Sale despite being in foal to leading first-crop sire Complexity.
