Yearling purchase Wafei enhanced his burgeoning reputation for Wathnan Racing in Qatar further on Friday when landing the 2000m metre handicap by five lengths. It was Wafei’s second straight win in Qatar following a similarly impressive success in the Al Ramayana Cup.
Previously trained by William Haggas in Britain, the son of American Pharoah showed smart form at two when a close second to subsequent Belmont Grade 2 winner Legend Of Time on his debut at Haydock Park and latterly broke his maiden by almost ten lengths at Hamilton Park.
He is now trained by Alban de Mieulle.
Wafei was purchased by Chad Schumer as a Keeneland September yearling and resold through Church Farm and Horse Park Stud for €185,000 to Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock at the 2023 Arqana May Sale in France.
He is out of Flying, a Galileo sister to champion/Group 1 winners Misty For Me and Ballydoyle.
