Wafei, a Schumer Bloodstock yearling purchase, got off the mark in style on Thursday when the near ten-length winner of the novice at Hamilton Park.
The three-year-old son of American Pharoah races for Wathnan Racing and showed smart form last year when a close second to subsequent Belmont Grade 2 winner Legend Of Time on his debut at Haydock Park.
On Thursday he was never out of second gear in the hands of James Doyle, easing clear to win on the bridle by 9 1/2 lengths.
Wafei was purchased by Chad Schumer as a Keeneland September yearling and resold through Church Farm and Horse Park Stud for €185,000 to Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock at the 2023 Arqana May Sale in France. He is out of Flying, a Galileo sister to champion/Group 1 winners Misty For Me and Ballydoyle.
