News stakes win for Acquitted caps another successful international week

Schumer Bloodstock purchases Warrior’s Head and Almosalhemah made the perfect starts to their careers at Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on Thursday when successful on their respective debuts.

Warrior’s Head, a son of Munnings bought for $110,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, broke his maiden by an easy three lengths for owner HRH Prince Sultan bin Mishal bin A/Aziz. One race later, it was the turn of Almosalhemah to get off the mark, with the Macho Uno colt winning well in another competitive affair for Alassail Stables. He was a $90,000 breeze-up purchase out of the OBS April Sale.

Riyadh was also the host of a wide-margin win on Friday by HRH Prince Sultan bin Mishal bin A/Aziz’s Shaqra’a Sultan. Now the winner of four races, the daughter of Mendelssohn is out of Keeneland November purchase Juno.

Meanwhile closer to home at Gulfstream Park, there was a striking debut win from Determined Effort for Todd Pletcher and owners Repole Stable and St Elias Stables LLC. The three-year-old Karakontie colt, a $310,000 yearling purchase, is out of the Listed-placed Graceful Grit, a daughter of Holy Roman Emperor who was purchased by Schumer Bloodstock for just $8,000 while carrying a full sibling at Keeneland in November 2021. Graceful Grit is now based in Ireland, where she is in foal to Cotai Glory.

An international weekend for Schumer Bloodstock was capped on Saturday with another impressive winning performance from Acquitted (pictured), who made it back-to-back Listed wins for Kris Lees in the Bernborough Plate at Eagle Farm in Australia.

Out of Irish broodmare purchase Blameless, the son of Night Of Thunder was raised in Ireland at Blakestown Stud and then Ballylinch Stud. He is the second foal out of Blameless, an Authorized mare from a top Chilean family who was bought for just €22,000 at the Goffs November Sale. The first foal out of Blameless was a Ruler Of The World filly named Blame The Ruler, who was a winner for Arturo Cousino at Clairefontaine in France.

Acquitted was a smart horse in Europe who actually defeated multiple Group 1 winner Mishriff as a two-year-old and ran champion miler Palace Pier close at three. We still manage part of this family on behalf its owner, with a two-year-old filly in training in Ireland among its current representatives.
